Once you're at the course, these are the basics of the game.
Start at the "tee pad" (usually a rectangular area close to a tee sign)
Throw your disc toward the basket
Keep throwing until your disc lands inside the basket
Count each throw as one "stroke," like traditional golf
Try to complete each hole in the fewest throws possible
Move to the next tee and repeat!
Compared to traditional golf where you swap out your club, in disc golf you choose your disc according to the distance you're aiming to throw.
Your go-to for short distances and finishing holes. This type of disc has the thickest rim
The reliable middle-distance option. Flies straighter than a driver and further than a putter. The rim is not as thick as the putter.
A beginner friendly distance option. Gets you down the fairway
The speed demons of disc golf. Tricky for beginners so save these for when you have more experience. The rim on these is very thin.
If you only choose one, start with a midrange disc. It can serve as both a putter and a driver while you're learning, making it the perfect all-in-one disc.
There are several ways to throw in disc golf, but you only need to learn one or two to start having fun!
Think frisbee toss! Reach back, pull across your body, and release with a snap. Great for beginners and your first throw to try.
Like tossing a baseball. Hold with fingers on the rim, snap your wrist and let it fly. Great for getting around obstacles. Sometimes this can feel more natural to some people
Disc golf is super chill, but there are a few simple rules to keep everyone safe and happy
Look before you throw! Make sure the fairway is clear
Yell "FORE!" if your disc is heading towards someone
Stay quiet when others are throwing
Let faster or smaller groups play through
Put your name and phone number on your disc in case you lose it
Keep your dog leashed and under control
